In case that either you are wondering whether your system should use the lpGBT or you already decided to use it, the VLDB+ is the best start. First of all, you can avoid waiting for the first version of your hardware design housing the lpGBT, which normally takes months. With the VLDB+ you will be able to test your software and firmware from day one. Secondly, since the VLDB+ has been thoroughly tested, you can be sure that any problems that arise will not come from the hardware itself. Thirdly, because the VLDB+ has all the possible features of the lpGBT and all of them can be tested, you can decide with greater peace of mind what your needs are. Fourthly, once you manufactured your own hardware housing the lpGBT, you can compare the performance between the two boards and make improvements. These are the main reasons to buy a VLDB+ Kit, you will save time, money and it will be useful until the last moment, when having your system fully operational.
The Raspberry PI Toolkit, together with a software available through the Manual page (pigbt link), allows you to configure the lpGBT. This RPI control software application can control the VLDB+ either over VLAN or over WIFI using a mobile device.
The RPI connector used on the VLDB+ is also compatible with the Dongle (former USB-I2C to configure the GBTx). However, the Dongle is not be recommended as it can affect the chip safety due to different grounds between the user computer (Dongle) and the VLDB+ (lpGBT).
Once you send the Order, if it contains a VLDB+ and it will be used outside CERN, we will check if there is any need for an additional compliance letter to be signed (your institute might have done it already). We will contact you if there is any particular paperwork to be prepared before delivery. For more information, please refer to export license (login before).
You have to be logged with your CERN account to purchase any of our devices.
Once you have purchased any of the available devices, you should see your summary on My Account window. You will also receive an email confirming the purchase. You will be then quickly contacted by our team to confirm dates and items.
To have a CERN budget code eases the way to proceed with the payment. Nevertheless, in case you do not have one, an RFF (Request for External Funds) can be generated in order to create an invoice for your institute. Your institute will receive it so it can proceed with the payment. If this is the case please put RFF in the Budget code space in the Orders.
